Summary

The City of Alachua, in coordination with Alachua County, submitted a project to the Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD) to make water quality improvements at Mill Creek Sink.  The project has two main components: (1) land acquisition; (2) stormwater improvements.  The scope of the project is to acquire approximately 5 acres for a stormwater management facility and approximately 8.5 acres surrounding the Mill Creek Sink.  The acquisition of the property will allow for the construction of stormwater management facilities that will receive stormwater runoff that is currently not discharging into a stormwater basin.  This will in turn improve water quality.

The SRWMD is awarding the City of Alachua $400,000 for the project and we are awaiting a proposed $1 million from FDEP to bring the project total to $1.4 million.  The City of Alachua will be receiving a proposed award agreement for the funds from SRWMD, which will be brought forward to the City Commission's approval at a future meeting.

SRWMD Executive Director Noah Valenstein will provide a background of the project and present a ceremonial check to the City in the amount of $400,000.

Alachua County may also have representatives in attendance who wish to speak.
