Summary The Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act provides law enforcement agencies authorization to use proceeds collected under this act as supplemental funding for authorized purposes. Pursuant to Florida State Statue (FSS) 932.7055 of the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act, City Commission approval is required for all expenditures from the City’s established Forfeiture Fund. The Alachua Police Department therefore requests the Commission’s approval to utilize funds for the purchase of the following equipment, and certifies that these proposed expenses comply with the provisions established in FSS 932.7055:
1. Tasers – The department last purchased tasers in 2011; additional tasers are needed in order to outfit all patrol units with an intermediate weapon. The total cost for an additional four (4) tasers and accessories (holsters, cartridges and battery packs) is approximately $7,070.
2. Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) – The department last purchased AED’s in 2013; additional units are needed in order to equip each of our patrol vehicles with an AED. The total cost for an additional eight (8) AED’s is $11,960.
Upon authorizing expenditure of forfeiture funds, a resolution to amend the City’s approved Fiscal Year 2016-2017 Budget would also be required. |
