SUBJECT:  Alachua County Housing Authority Activities Update - Kenneth Armstrong

Summary

The City of Alachua City Commission adopted its Strategic Plan for Fiscal Year 2016 on September 14, 2015. Initiative 4.1 relates to the strategy to support the Construction and Repair of Affordable Housing and Initiative 4.2 relates to a strategy to Encourage Construction of Senior Housing Opportunities including Assisted Living Facilities. The Compliance and Risk Management Department is tasked with meeting the City Commission Objectives.
 
City Staff first conducted basic demographic research projected from the 2010 Census. The results of that effort are summarized on the attached one page report. Meetings were held with the Alachua County Housing Authority Executive Director Ken Armstrong who is supported by a professional staff with extensive experience in the financing, construction and operation of affordable housing programs. His extensive experience is summarized in the brief profile set forth on the attached page from the ACHA web site.
 
The City Commission has accepted the recommendation of the City Manager and staff to accept the commitment of the ACHA Director to work closely with the City on cooperative programs to meet the needs of City residents. Mr. Armstrong's presentation will report on successes to date.
