MEETING DATE:  3/9/2015

SUBJECT:  Appointment to Citizen Advisory Task Force (CATF)

PREPARED BY:  Diane Morgan, CMC, Grants Specialist

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Accept the CATF recommendation to appoint one member (Sandy Rezac) to fill the remainder of the term of office ending April 30, 2017.

Summary

The CATF is the advisory body to the City Commission on our Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.  On September 18, 2014, the City received a resignation letter from CATF member Dayna Roper-Miller who was appointed to the Planning & Zoning Board on August 25, 2014.  A recruitment notice for this vacancy to fill the remainder of Ms. Roper-Miller’s term was advertised on September 11th in the Alachua County Today.  The recruitment notice was also placed on the City website and several community bulletin boards.

Due to no response by the October 16th deadline, the notice was reposted on October 23rd.  In response to this recruitment, the City received one (1) application by the December 15th deadline.

The appointment procedure outlined in the Bylaws state…"Candidates for membership on the Task Force shall be proposed by the Task Force and submitted to the City of Alachua City Commission for approval.”  The item was discussed by the CATF at its February 24th meeting in which 4 out of 6 CATF members were present.  The Task Force reviewed the application submitted by Sandy Rezac and voted unanimously to forward her application to the Commission for approval.

The applicant has been notified that an appointment will be considered during tonight’s meeting and has been invited to attend.  The Commission may accept the recommendation of the CATF via a motion made during the meeting that states the name of the applicant to be appointed for the remaining term ending April 30, 2017.
