SUBJECT:  Operation & Maintenance Agreement for Electric Substation

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

(1) Approve the Operation and Maintenance Agreement for the City's Electric Substation, and; (2) direct the City Manager as the duly authorized officer or agent for the City to execute the Agreement.

 

Summary

The City of Alachua and City of Gainesville, d/b/a Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU), entered into a contract for Wholesale Electric Service.  The contract required the City and GRU to enter into and, from time to time may amend, a separate Operating and Maintenance Agreement whose term shall coincide with the term of the Contract.  The agreement also contains provisions for the City of Alachua to utilize the Engineering Staff and Substation Technicians to perform specialized projects at the electric substation (routine replacement of equipment and/or emergency repair).

 

The City of Alachua's electric substation, control equipment and SCADA system is designed with the same standards as a typical GRU electric substation. Staff has identified special projects during the next several years that GRU may be requested to perform as the  electric system ages. Capital projects for the electric substation upgrades are approved in the Electric System Budget for the applicable Fiscal Year. The GRU Agreement does not restrict the City from using other resources to complete special projects at the electric substation.
