SUBJECT:  Appointment to Citizen Advisory Task Force (CATF)

PREPARED BY:  Diane Morgan, CMC, Grants Specialist

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Accept the CATF recommendation to appoint one member to the term of office ending April 30, 2018.

Summary

The CATF is the advisory body to the City Commission on the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.   A recruitment notice for a CATF vacancy was advertised on April 30, 2015 in the Alachua County Today.  The recruitment notice was also placed on the City website and several community bulletin boards. In response to this recruitment, the City received two (2) applications by the July 6, 2015 deadline.

The item was discussed by the CATF at its August 25th meeting in which all of the CATF members were present.  The Task Force reviewed the applications submitted by Dietra Howard and previous CATF member Julia Kelly.  The appointment procedure outlined in the Bylaws state…"Candidates for membership on the Task Force shall be proposed by the Task Force and submitted to the City of Alachua City Commission for approval.”  Accordingly, the Task Force unanimously voted to forward the applications to the Commission for approval and proposes Dietra Howard as their recommendation for appointment.

The applicants have been notified that an appointment will be made during tonight’s meeting and have been invited to attend.  The Commission may accept the recommendation of the CATF via a motion made during the meeting that states the name of the applicant to be appointed for the term ending April 30, 2018.  In the event the City Commission desires to not accept the CATF recommendation and would like to vote on the two applicants, the Deputy City Clerk's Office will administer the ballot process.
