Summary The City Commission adopted Ordinance 12-03 in 2011, establishing the five-member Senior Resources Advisory Board (SRAB). This ordinance requires an annual report to the City Commission.
Our dedicated 2015 Board Members consist of Chair Gussie Lee, Vice Chair Rosie Washington and members Jackie Edwards, Velma Edwards and Ella Thomas. Our Commission Liaison is Commissioner Shirley Green Brown. This advisory board held meetings at the Cleather Hathcock, Sr. Community Center in February, May, August and November of 2015.
The meeting format was updated last year to combine a presentation of interest to our seniors and an open discussion/citizen comment portion for those who have concerns or something to share. Our guest speaker for our May meeting was Recreation Director Damon Messina who gave a presentation on Project Legacy; our August meeting presentation was on HIV/Safe Sex presented by Lucas DeMonte from the WellFlorida Council; and in November, Assistant City Manager Adam Boukari reviewed the City’s newly adopted FY 2016 Strategic Plan. All presentations were well received with numerous questions from those in attendance.
The mailing list for the Senior Sentinel newsletter has grown to over 75 households with copies also distributed in City Hall, the Hathcock Center and Hal Brady Recreation Complex. Feedback on the articles continues to be positive and our seniors are very appreciative of having a newsletter to focus on local activities, friends and neighbors.
Our next SRAB meeting will be held on February 10th and all seniors are invited to participate. |
