Summary

The week of April 10th – 16th has been named National Volunteer Week 2016.  The Florida Department of Elder Affairs is again recognizing exceptional and outstanding volunteers that support Communities for a Lifetime activities and programs.

Senior volunteers provide essential support for our senior activities at the City of Alachua Cleather Hathcock, Sr. Community Center, under the guidance of Recreation Director Damon Messina, Reatha Peterson and Rose Brown.  Additionally, we have many seniors that volunteer their time and expertise by sitting on our City advisory boards.  Three volunteers have been recognized by the Department of Elder Affairs for their tireless and selfless service to others:  Shirley Baker, Sarah Green and Thelma Hammon.  Furthermore, the Department of Elder Affairs has included special recognition items for Ms. Hammon, who has volunteered in our community in many capacities for over twenty (20) years.

The Department of Elder Affairs has provided certificates and recognition items to honor these volunteers for their service, which are available for presentation by the City Commission this evening.
