SUBJECT:  Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2021 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program - Florida JAG-Direct (JAGD) Grant Application

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Upon notice of award from funding source, authorize Mayor and Chief of Police execute the Acceptance of Subgrant Award on behalf of the City of Alachua, and direct staff to remit said Certificate of Acceptance to FDLE should the request for funding assistance be granted to the agency.

 

 

Summary

 

The FDLE has received an award from the United States Department of Justice (USDOJ) for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2021 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds. The FDLE Office of Criminal Justice Grants is the state administrative agency for these grant funds which are distributed to units of local government based on local crime statistics reported to FDLE.

FDLE has allocated $2,727 from this award for use by our agency in accordance with the Florida JAG Direct distribution provision of Chapter 11D-9, Florida Administrative Code.  The agency would like to use these funds in order to purchase new gun lights for sworn personnel.

The grant cycle for federal funds has been running behind - this application for funding is under the FFY 2021 cycle, and the project period has been set to run 09/01/2022 to 03/31/2023. In order to meet submission deadlines, the online application was submitted for review on 08/31/2022, using FDLE's grant management system.  Application is being to the commission at this time to ratify submission from 8/31/22.
