SUBJECT:  General CRA Activity Update

Summary

The CRA Advisory Board held its first meeting on July 24th, 2017. Member Rudy Rothseiden was elected as Chair and Member Bryan Boukari was elected as Vice Chair. Also at this meeting the Board discussed and heard presentations concerning:

-  Laws and policies governing the CRA

- CRA Fiscal Year Budget 2017-2018

- CRA Projects for Fiscal Year 2017-2018

 

The minutes of the July 24, 2017 advisory board are attached to this agenda item.

 

The CRA Advisory Board met on August 21, 2017, and received a staff presentation related to the Main Street Treescaping project.  In 2014 the CRA approved funding to be set aside for a multi-phased treescaping project. Phase II of this project will begin on September 18th and is estimated to end October 23rd of this year. Damaged or trees that have reached their end of life will be removed and replaced. Removal of the trees will require sidewalk demolition in order to plant replacement trees and update the irrigation system. Cracked and unsafe sidewalks will also be replaced. The last steps of the project will include power washing the sidewalks and striping the road. The current landscape beds will be completely reworked to match the Main Street block to the north, which had improvements last year. Business owners, property owners, and residents located along the project area were invited to an informational meeting on August 15th, 2017. 

 

Public Services will begin sidewalk maintenance work along NW 150th Avenue where some manholes have shifted above the sidewalk. 

 

The landscape maintenance contract for the Downtown Area, Towne Centre, and Highway 441 medians was issued for bid on August 24th, 2017 and closed September 7th, 2017. Bid award recommendations will go to the City Commission on September 25th 2017. The scope of work was written with a focus on beautifying Main Street.

 

On Monday September 18th, 2017 at 3:00 pm there will be a CRA Advisory Board business and property owner stakeholder forum. The forum's purpose will be to update stakeholders about the CRA and upcoming projects. Business and property owners will also be invited to address any concerns and provide input. Members of the CRA are invited to attend.
