Summary The City Commission, on March 27, 2017, approved the Agreement between the City and the Suwannee River Water Management District (SRWMD) whereby the City was awarded a $400,000 grant to partially fund the City of Alachua acquisition of property and to design and complete a project to improve water quality recharging the upper Floridan aquifer at the Mill Creek Swallet to preserve and protect the Mill Creek Sink and Mill Creek Cave System.
The SRWMD concurrently applied for and received a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) grant of $1,000,000 to supplement the $400,000 available grant to the City to fund the projected $1,400,000 cost of the Mill Creek Project.
Attached and presented for recommended approval is The First Amendment to Memorandum of Agreement Between The City of Alachua and Suwannee River Water Management District for Cost Share Assistance. The presented amendment to the Agreement is necessary to increase the budget and amend the Grant Work Plan based on the additional funding.
Three Work Orders for Engineering Services for the design, construction monitoring and certification of the Project are also attached and recommended for approval. The engineering firm, the work plan, the selection process and the amounts negotiated for each task have been submitted to SRWMD and FDEP and approved as a part of the grant approval and review process.
Staff recommends, if the First Amendment is approved, the Mayor be authorized and directed to sign the attached document and the City Manager be authorized to sign and deliver the attached 3 Work Orders for Engineering in the ordinary course of business once the Amendment is executed by the SRWMD.
