Summary The School Board of Alachua County (SBAC) has expressed its intent to continue the School Resource Officer Program (SROP) with the City of Alachua for the four schools within our jurisdiction - Santa Fe High School, Mebane Middle School, Alachua Elementary School and Irby Elementary School. As such, the SBAC requested that the City enter into another service agreement for the 2018-2019 school year.
The City Commission approved the agreement on April 23, 2018 and the SBAC subsequently approved it as well. Since the approval of the agreement, the SBAC has been in negotiations with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office for school resource deputy services in schools where cities do not have police services. The Sheriff's Office requested an increase in funding beyond what was proposed by the SBAC. Therefore, the SBAC agreed to a one-time increase of funding for the 2018-2019 school year. The City was contacted by the SBAC stating that the SBAC is extending the same increase to all SROP agencies and requested an amendment to the 2018-2019 agreement.
The agreement approved on April 23, 2018 provided $151,020.00 in funding. The proposed amendment provides $178,918.00 in funding.
Funds will again be paid to the City in ten monthly payments, beginning 10/30/2018; monthly payments shall be one-tenth of the agreed total share, provided the SROP positions are staffed by 10/01/2018. |
