SUBJECT:  FY18 Compensation Plan Revision

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

Approve the proposed FY18 Compensation Plan.

 

Summary

The City of Alachua maintains a Compensation Plan that establishes job titles, salary ranges and job descriptions.  The maintenance  of the Plan is performed by the Human Resources Division.

 

The proposed revisions to the FY 2018 Plan include shifts in the scales for five (5) of the positions which comprise the Electric Line Crew. The proposed changes indicated in red represent reductions in the respective position range. Proposed changes indicated in green are indicative of increases in the range. These changes support the City's established training plan for the Electric Crew which provides clear career progression thereby increasing employee retention.

 

Additionally, the position of Engineer has been divided to a progression of Engineer I and Engineer II.  The addition of these positions are indicated in blue. This change will better align our growing Engineering department with industry standards by providing the flexibility for career progression from an Engineering Technician to an Engineer.

 

The proposed revisions do not change the total number of full time equivalents for the City.

 

Human Resources strives to remain abreast of industry standards and adapt to the changing market to ensure the City remains competitive in the employment market. All proposed revisions are to this end and have no immediate fiscal impact.
