Summary Alachua County Property Appraiser Ed Crapo has requested the City of Alachua enter into a Memorandum of Understanding for the purpose of using property tax collections to fund ad valorem tax exemption audit services.
The Property Appraiser has entered into an agreement with Tax Management Associates (TMA) to perform audit services regarding tax exemptions. TMA will identify properties that should not be receiving certain exemptions that are being claimed. The exemptions will be removed and the property owner billed accordingly. The Alachua County Tax Collector will distribute the money received from the property owners to the appropriate taxing authorities less a percentage earned by TMA. The City will receive 70% of the revenue due to the City from the removed exemptions for the first year. The subsequent years, the City will receive 100% of the revenue due to the City from the removed exemptions.
The MOU term is for eighteen (18) months and will renew automatically thereafter on an annual basis. The City may opt out of the MOU with notice ninety (90) days prior to Oct. 1 of any given year.
