SUBJECT:  RFB 2019-03 Alachua East Wastewater Collection Infrastructure Improvements Award

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

1)  Authorize the City Manager, contingent on the acquisition of necessary land rights, to enter into a contract with W.G. Johnson and Son, Inc. to provide construction services for the Alachua Wastewater Collection Infrastructure Improvements Project base bid consistent with RFB 2019-03, in an amount not to exceed $1,093,208.95; and Alternate #1, if deemed necessary by the City Manager, in an amount not to exceed $24,450.00.

Summary

On January 16, 2019, the City solicited formal bids from qualified vendors to furnish all necessary equipment, supervision, labor, materials, tools, and incidentals to complete the Alachua East Wastewater Collection Infrastructure Improvements.

The City received two (2) bids in response to RFB 2019-03.  All bids qualified.  Bids were received from W.G. Johnson & Son, Inc. in the amount of $1,117,658.95 (Base Bid - $1,093,208.95 and Alternate 1 - $24,450.00) and from Scherer Construction of North Florida, LLC in the amount of $1,291,243.96 (Base Bid - $1,252,760.89 and Alternate 1 - $38,483.07).

Staff recommends awarding RFB 2019-03 to W.G. Johnson & Son, Inc. as the lowest, responsive and responsible bidder.
