Summary

Directional and Wayfinding Signs & Maps Initiative

A Request for Quotes (RFQ) seeking qualified consultants to create a Wayfinding System Master Plan was issued on Monday, February 4. The Plan will provide an inventory and analysis of existing signage, recommend sign locations and design, and provide an action plan and cost estimate for implementation. As part of the scope of work in the RFQ, the consultant will present the draft plan to both the CRA Advisory Board and the CRA. Responses to the RFQ were due by Thursday, February 28 and are currently under staff review.

A Walking Guide to Main Street Alachua, which will primarily serve to provide a directory of businesses, parks, and other civic facilities along and near Main Street, is nearing completion. In addition to directing visitors to downtown destinations and indicating the location of businesses, the guide will also provide information about commercial properties available to lease or purchase as well as historic buildings along Main Street. This finished guide will be distributed locally and posted online for public access. A draft of the guide is attached to this agenda item for informational purposes.

Third Thursday on Main

The most recent Third Thursday on Main events were held on January 17 and February 21. Each event brought approximately 300 attendees, and had a consistent crowd throughout the evening. The events featured live music, trivia contests, and an art and craft market. The Alachua Chamber of Commerce hosted the Alachua Farmer's Market during the events and vendors set up along Main Street adjacent to the stage area. The next event will take place on March 21 and will feature music by the Karen Morgan Band.
