SUBJECT:  Public Hearing – Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2018 and FFY 2019 Grant Cycle

PREPARED BY:  Robert Bonetti, Finance & Administrative Services Director

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

(1) Conduct the First Public Hearing to receive citizen input; and (2) Direct the Administration to proceed with a CDBG application to the DEO.

Summary

The City is considering applying to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) for a FFY 2018 and FFY 2019 Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application.

Since the City has a currently open grant in the Regular Category (neighborhood revitalization, commercial revitalization and housing rehabilitation), the City is only eligible to apply for a grant in the Economic Development Category in an amount up to $1.5 million.  Construction activities funded through the CDBG program must meet one of the following National Objectives:

- Provide benefit to low-and moderate-income persons;
- Prevent or eliminate slum or blight conditions; or
- Meet a need of recent origin having a particular urgency.

The first step in this process is to conduct the first of two required public hearings.  Notice of the first public hearing was published in Alachua County Today on March 14, 2019 to meet CDBG notice requirements.
