Summary The City of Alachua Code of Ordinances Sec. 2-934 establishes the five-member Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The purpose of this Board is to serve an advisory role to the City Commission concerning recreation services and potential long range capital improvements as well as evaluate existing programs, recommend changes and enhancements and promote and review citizen participation in planning and utilizing city services and facilities. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is made up of five (5) members, who serve staggered three (3) year terms and are appointed by the City Commission.
Due to the resignation of board member Mike Schentrup, the Recreation Advisory Board has one (1) vacancy. The City advertised for applications for the Board in Alachua County Today on October 3, 2019 and October 10, 2019. Notice of the vacancy was also posted on community bulletin boards and the City’s website. The City received one (1) application:

As provided by Florida State Statue 943.04351, the City conducted a search of each applicant's name against the registration information regarding sexual predators and sexual offenders maintained by the Department of Law Enforcement. The applicant was not in the registry.
Additionally, Sec. 2-935 requires that members of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board be residents of the city of Alachua, of which the applicant qualifies.
In that there is one (1) vacancy and one (1) application, the City Commission can consider appointing this applicant.
