Summary A half century ago, the United States of America called upon the young men and women of our country to fight communism in Vietnam. Many Alachua County residents answered the call to duty resulting in 48 of our young men being killed in action never to return home to family and friends. To honor Alachua County’s courageous fallen heroes, the local Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1092, and Marine Corps League, 990 Gator Chapter, are recognizing these patriots by placing commemorative bricks at the Alachua City Hall Military Memorial to keep their memory alive.
A proclamation has been prepared to honor these brave veterans and declare Dec. 9, 2019 as Fallen Alachua County Vietnam War Heroes Day.
