Summary On September 23, 2019 the City of Alachua FY 2019-2020 Budget was adopted by the City Commission. The Public Services Department - Electric Division approved budget included the purchase of one (1) Underground Cable Puller not to exceed $156,724.00.
Sherman+Reilly is the sole manufacturer of the Hydraulic Duct Dawg (Model DDHXA-75-T) Underground Cable Puller. Electric Division staff researched and attended demonstrations on various types of cable pullers and found no other equipment comparable to the Duct Dawg. Additionally, direct purchase from the manufacturer saves the mark-up costs associated with purchasing from designated distributors.
The Duct Dawg has unique safety features such as a fully articulating, self supported 3-axis boom, which keeps the user from having to move the boom manually, and a fully wireless remote control, which keeps the operators safe from potential electrical touch during equipment operation. These features are designed to help ensure the safety of the operators.
The purchase of the underground cable puller will provide the Electric Division with expanded capability to provide power with greater reliability and efficiency.
